The confidence of Arsenal is high on the acquisition of Lille playmaker Nicolas Pepe after agreeing to a £72m fee for the talented winger, according to Sky in Italy.
Napoli will be missing out on the winger, as Arsenal has offered a superior offer; with this move, the signing of Wilfried Zaha that has been on their radar for some times is now a doubt.
The willingness of Lille to receive a lower amount upfront with installment payments is the reason why Arsenal focus switched from Zaha to Pepe with both having a similar market price.
On Friday, Gerald Lopez confirmed that Napoli had agreed to a deal for the 24 years old, but Arsenal looks to be in the pole position now to overpower them for the Lille’s winger. Napoli was willing to pay £3.6m per year for Pepe but the player wants more in the region of £4.5m instead.
Lille’s president, Gerald Lopez, told Sky Sport that “we have seen interest from three Uk clubs, also from Spain and Italy. We have relationships with some of the clubs where we think he can be fitted into and advise him, but it all depends on him to decide where he wants to be.”
A deal for Nicolas Pepe will surpass the club current record signing of £60m they paid Borussia Dortmund for Pierre Emerick Aubameyang in January 2018
